The Greek islands are known for their rich culture, delicious food, and a slow-paced lifestyle, and Sifnos is no different. Particularly famous for its culinary heritage and traditional pottery, Sifnos has become a popular tourist destination, though it has yet to develop the infrastructure to fully accommodate the influx of visitors. Mikro (Little) Petali, located next to the charming Kato Petali Village, provides ample lodging and modern amenities while maintaining the authentic language and style of the surrounding villages. The facility creatively incorporates shapes and forms from the adjacent village to offer a seamless wander-discover experience. It introduces several restaurants and public spaces designed to foster a sense of connection between the new hotel and the original village, blending the old and the new. The hotel’s offerings include diverse dining options that celebrate Sifnos’ rich food culture, a pottery studio that invites guests to immerse themselves in traditional island arts, and a kids’ club that ensures family-friendly fun. The central administrative building ensures that all guest needs are met with attention and care. With 38 units ranging from cozy studios to spacious three-bedroom accommodations, Mikro Petali offers a range of spaces to suit the needs of all visitors, whether they’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with family. The peaceful atmosphere and close-knit village vibe make it an ideal getaway for those seeking a true taste of Sifnos’ culture and charm. The thoughtful design and amenities make Mikro Petali a unique place that promises to be a memorable destination for all.
The intervention used forms from the traditional village to replicate a similar experience of exploration throughout the resort. These forms were extracted, regularized to allow for simpler joinery, and clustered across the site.
