Located in Sweetwater Creek State Park outside of Atlanta, GA and adjacent to the park’s mill ruins, this design for a seed bank/nature museum aimed to blur the lines between outside and inside. A ramped exhibit space takes guests on a circular path throughout the entire building, carrying visitors through the life cycle of a plant. The structure included temperature controlled rooms for seed storage, large lab spaces, overnight lodging for researchers, multiple exhibit spaces, and an outdoor kitchen and garden space, while working with the steep grade of the site and providing views to the beautiful Sweetwater Creek rapids nearby. The remote location also required a strategy of electrical and water systems, relying on a south-angling roof covered with solar panels and a rainwater collection system.
